Allergists and Immunologists are medical experts who specialize in understanding and treating allergies, asthma, and immune system disorders. They help people who have reactions to things like pollen, pet dander, and certain foods, as well as those with conditions like hay fever and eczema. These doctors perform tests to identify allergens, provide treatments to manage symptoms and work to strengthen the immune system. Known for their detail-oriented nature, empathy, and problem-solving skills, allergists and immunologists play a crucial role in society by helping people live more comfortably and healthily. From ensuring a child can play outside without sneezing fits to helping someone breathe easier with asthma, their work enhances the quality of life for many, allowing everyone to enjoy a happier and healthier life.
Salary Range
- $184,000 – $305,000/ year
Education & Timeframe
- Start Your Journey: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field Duration: ~4 years
- Advance Your Expertise: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school Duration: ~4 years
- Gain Experience: Complete a residency program in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics, which typically lasts 3 years, followed by a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology, which usually lasts 2-3 years. Stay current with allergy and immunology techniques, patient care practices, and relevant research. Obtain board certification from the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI).

- The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Nevada Health Workforce Pipeline Grant (NHWPG) will focus on providing funding opportunities that are intended to disseminate financial relief and incentivize individuals to pursue careers in a variety of health-related fields.
