Neurologists are specialized doctors who diagnose and treat disorders of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. They manage conditions such as epilepsy, migraines, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. Neurologists work in hospitals and specialized clinics, conducting tests and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Salary Range
- $200,000 – $380,000/ year
Education & Timeframe
- Start Your Journey: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field Duration: ~4 years
- Advance Your Expertise: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school Duration: ~4 years
- Gain Experience: Complete a neurology residency program, which typically lasts 4-5 years, to gain specialized training and experience in neurology.
- Stay Current: Stay current with medical advancements, patient care practices, and relevant research in neurology. Obtain board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) to enhance qualifications and career prospects.
